LEXINGTON, Ky. (FOX 56) – The Lexington Police Department is putting National Police Week in the spotlight.

Starting in 1962 when President Kennedy proclaimed May 15 as National Peace Officers Memorial Day and the week of May 15 falls on the calendar as National Police Week.

During this week, Lexington police said they pay special tribute to law enforcement officers who lost their lives in the line of duty.

National Police Week starts on May 11 and runs through May 17.
