Jim Caldwell's Forecast | Severe weather threat leads off our wet weekend
LEXINGTON, Ky. (WDKY) - A much wetter system will begin impacting us on Friday. Round of storms will roll across the area. Some of these will be strong or even severe. There will be some general rains early in the day. The timing on the severe weather will be that afternoon/evening. Parts of our region are under the ENHANCED risk of severe weather. Lexington is in the SLIGHT risk of severe weather category.
Let's break this down:
- Strong storms begin pressing in during the afternoon
- Winds in excess of 60 MPH
- Very large hail - egg sized
- An isolated tornado is possible
Friday is just the beginning of what will be an extremely wet time period. I think we see even more rain on Saturday through Monday. As long as this system is around, expect very gusty winds. Maybe not to severe weather standards... just very windy! That is all from the same system! Every day, there is a rain chance for us. There may be times when you are active with rain for hours at a time. You will catch some breaks, but these will not last forever. Another round of rain will move in after another moves out. It is that kind of set-up!
