Students from all over Kentucky registered before opening day, and on Friday, Keeneland set up a tent for the college applicants to grab goodies from totes to t-shirts, then made their way to the grandstands.
The applicants are eligible for two $10,000 dollar scholarships, and 10 $2,000 dollar scholarships, all made possible by Lane’s End Farm’s sponsorship.
One student, Kyle Hampton, was a recipient of one $10,000 scholarship last fall, and came back to participate as an ambassador for Keeneland’s Spring Meet.
“It’s a great way to see all the different aspects of racing. Like the sales, to ticketing, to marketing, to social media, all the different aspects,” Hampton said. “And these are going to be the next leaders of the sport, and some people that may go through this program and just having this base and background, and the fact that Lane’s End invests in the sport and into youth really says a lot.”
The students found out at the end of race six who won one of the $10,000 dollar scholarships.
