LEXINGTON Ky. (FOX 56) — Blood centers across the commonwealth are in search of new donors to help fight a summer blood shortage. The Kentucky Blood Center is offering up some summer-themed incentives.
Summers are tough for blood banks, since schools aren’t in session, and folks are getting out and traveling for the summer. Staff said incentives like this have worked wonders.
That’s why the Kentucky Blood Center’s ‘Summer Getaway Giveaway’ starts on May 23.
Anyone who donates will be eligible to win a 2022 Toyota RAV4, and an all-inclusive vacation for two to the Excellence Oyster Bay in Jamaica. Getting registered today through September 10 will put you in the running for the Toyota, and today through July 4 will be your entry for the vacation.
“The thing that we would like to get across to people is that we certainly understand people are busy, there are places you want to go and things you want to do, but that need for blood from the hospitals and for local patients doesn’t slow down. It continues and in order to help patients in Kentucky, we need to have that blood on the shelves,” said Kentucky Blood Center director of media and branding Eric Lindsey.
The winner of the all-inclusive Jamaica getaway will have 12 months to redeem the vacation after the package has been awarded (subject to blackout dates).
The Excellence Oyster Bay, a Victorian-style paradise, is located on a private peninsula in Montego Bay and is surrounded by stunning turquoise waters and mangrove lagoons. A family-friendly option is also available at an alternate resort for the prize winner.
The Toyota RAV4 features a blizzard pearl white exterior with a Nutmeg SofTex interior. The 2.5-liter, four-cylinder, front-wheel drive car is equipped with a limited-grade advanced technology package, a limited-grade weather package, and a panoramic glass roof.
KBC will offer additional thank you items throughout the summer, including a limited-edition trucker hat (available now through June), movie tickets (June 27 through July 5 at donor centers only) and a “Giving is Good” T-shirt (July and August in all locations).
