Kentucky trails Tennessee after day one of Big Blue Crush blood drive

LEXINGTON, Ky. (FOX 56) – Kentucky currently trails Tennessee in the 2021 Big Blue Crush blood drive. Tennessee recorded 480 donations while Kentucky recorded 372.

The Kentucky Blood Center (KBC) said it’s more important than ever to donate, as there are unprecedented shortages caused by the pandemic.

“We have less days that we’re collecting blood because of the holidays, certainly we have less drives on the days where we are collecting blood and so coming out of a pandemic, where we’re already shortages, it’s even more important this year than ever before for people to come out and donate,” said Kentucky Blood Center employee Mandy Brajuha.

In Lexington, donors can donate at either the Beaumont or Andover donor centers daily from 9 a.m. – 6 p.m.:

The competition continues through Nov. 19.
