Lawsuit filed after 12-year-old allegedly strip-searched at Clark Co. school

WINCHESTER, Ky. (WDKY) - A federal lawsuit has been filed against Clark County Public Schools alleging a 12-year-old student was strip-searched at Roy D. Campbell Junior High School.

The Lexington Herald-Leader reports the girl’s father filed the lawsuit, saying his daughter’s rights were violated. He is seeking an undisclosed amount of compensation, and punitive damages against the school system.

The lawsuit alleges the student was called to the counseling office and was asked to “strip down to her underwear” before being searched by counselor Becca Boyd and assistant principal Kris Creteau.

No word on why the student was searched.

The lawsuit says the search violated the student’s constitutional rights, and alleges that Boyd and Creteau are liable “under state law, for invasion of privacy, assault, negligence, and intentional infliction of emotional distress.”
