Lexington firefighters installing smoke alarms in Cardinal Valley on Saturday
LEXINGTON, Ky. (WDKY) - —
Lexington firefighters are going door-to-door in the Cardinal Valley neighborhood on Saturday, offering free smoke alarms to anyone who needs them.
Firefighters say it's part of Lexington's first Smoke Alarm Safety Day.
Firefighters say they've installed around 8,000 smoke alarms around the city already. "Using mapping data from past smoke alarm installations, we discovered we have only received a few calls for smoke alarms from this area of Cardinal Valley," Fire Lieutenant Jessica Bowman said in a news release.
Firefighters say funding for Smoke Alarm Safety Day was provided through a $15,000 grant from NiSource/Columbia Gas.
Earlier this week, Lexington firefighters told WDKY that they need donations from the community to keep their smoke alarm program going. A link for donations is attached to this story.
