Lexington hospital employees ‘exhausted’ on front lines

LEXINGTON, Ky. (FOX 56/WKYT) – Despite being short staffed, Lexington hospitals are taking in more patients.

Health care workers say they’re also dealing with burnout. It has been a grueling 17 months, and with another peak in the pandemic approaching, workers are concerned.

“The concerning thing is where do we go now? We’re already short staffed. We’re expecting the peak later in September, early October. So where are these patients going to go? How are we gonna get the staff?”

Jenny Renaud, UK HealthCare

On top of that, some workers are missing days because of COVID-19 spreading at their kids’ schools.

Hospitals are seeing an increase in pediatric patients, some without pre-existing conditions, as well as more pregnant women.
