LEXINGTON, Ky. (FOX 56) — Not too far in the distant future, there’s a proposal for a new soccer stadium right behind next to Rupp Arena, and since the renderings release on Friday, it’s been creating a lot of buzz on the streets of downtown Lexington.

Mama Tequila’s General Manager, Efren Prado, said they had no idea that a soccer team or a stadium could be on its way. Needless to say, the restaurant was pleasantly surprised.

“I wasn’t told about it, the owners had no clue until I forwarded them the post on Facebook,” Prado said. “We just got hit with this, but it’s exciting, it’s going to drive up business for sure.”

New on the block, Mama Tequila is a restaurant by day and a nightclub by night. Prado said they are already thinking about how to prepare for all the foot traffic to come for both sides of their business.

“We’re going to capitalize on it as much as we can. Make some specials, some drink specials; I just got to make sure I got enough servers for the events.”

At the sports bar section of Mama Tequila, one couple said it’s about time Lexington got a pro team.

“Lexington is just waiting for this to happen,” Charles Tipton, a patron, said. “I think once they bring it here, you bring it here, we will come.”

Tipton’s wife, Nicki Tipton, said she saw the stadium’s renderings after they were released Friday.

“I think the renderings looked really awesome,” Tipton said. “It looks like a neat, modern, arena to bring to our town, bring revenue, and we have young boys so we encourage them to enjoy sports, learn any new sport. I think its great for Lexington.”

While some critiques have surfaced from the public about the parking situation, it has not changed the level of anticipation for Mama Tequila.

“It will cause some parking issues, we already have parking issues, but nothing crazy,” Prado said.

Meanwhile, Tipton suggested a creative solution.

“Maybe we could have some busses that could come into town, downtown, something like that to help with the parking issues.”

The stadium project is also expected to bring a 45,000 sq. ft. entertainment space, a hotel with 160 room accommodations, an apartment complex, and of course parking facilities to accommodate all of the business this is going to bring.
