Lexington nurse shares COVID-19 story, urges vaccination

LEXINGTON, Ky. (FOX 56/WKYT) – A Lexington nurse wants others to learn from her near-death experience.

Kourtney Shepherd caught COVID-19 back in November before the vaccine rollout began. She’s still dealing with nerve damage and other long-term effects.

She wants people to take advantage of the resources available for protection like masks and vaccines.

“I see a lot of people and hear a lot of people say, you know, they don’t want to live in fear their whole life, but fear, to me, is needing an ICU bed and not being able to get one.”

Shepherd says she’s concerned about the current course of the pandemic and what it means for patients with other long-term illnesses.
