Police in Lexington are investigating a deadly shooting Sunday afternoon that killed a 17-year-old.

It happened around 4 p.m. off Alumni Drive.

According to the Fayette County Coroner, Hayden Nash was shot in an apartment at the complex and died at the scene.

Lexington Police confirm there were no other injuries reported.

Linda Murphy lives in the same apartment complex.

“I never heard a shot and I was out on the porch, what I heard was screaming,” Murphy said.

That was followed shortly by sirens. Murphy says this isn’t the first time her home has been caught in the middle of a police investigation.

But, she said it’s still a relatively safe neighborhood. She feels tensions are just high everywhere.

“I think everything as far as violence, everything that we’re all dealing with the stress from COVID is really just bringing people up to a higher level of anger and violence,” Murphy said.

Right now, no suspects are in custody and police are still working with witnesses for more information.
