LEXINGTON, Ky. (FOX 56) – Lexington police are investigating the death of a man Monday.

According to the Lexington Police Department, police arrived around 10:34 a.m. at the 6000 block of Athens Walnut Hill Pike to investigate a trespassing report involving two subjects.

When officers made contact with one of the subjects, he threatened to harm himself with a firearm. The second subject, a woman, was able to move away from the armed man, according to a statement from police.

The statement said, officers tried to de-escalate and negotiate the man to distance himself from the firearm for an extended time but the man ultimately shot himself.

No officers were harmed and no officers fired their weapons, according to the report.

The man received first aid from paramedics at the scene, but the man was declared deceased, according to the department.

The man’s name will be released by the Fayette County Coroner’s Office later.

Earlier Monday, Lexington police alerted the public about a shutdown of I-75 northbound and southbound. Lexington Police Department has confirmed the shutdown is connected to the incident on Athens Walnut Hill Pike.
