LEXINGTON, Ky. (WDKY) – A Lexington teen is dead after a snowboarding accident while on spring break in Utah.
Park City, Utah Police tell us it happened just after 3 p.m. local time on Tuesday.
According to Henry Clay High School baseball coach Jordan Tarrence, the victim is Nathan Burnett, a senior and former baseball player at Henry Clay.
Nathan played baseball his freshman and sophomore years, but Coach Terrance said he was still part of the Blue Devils family.
Many of the players grew up on the field with him and saw him smiling in the hallways at school. Nathan was described as quiet but caring and someone you always wanted to be around.
The team said this season every swing, every throw, and every catch is dedicated to Nathan.
“There’s more important things in life and what we do is just a game. In the grand scheme of things, life is short and you have to take a vantage of it and be thankful for the opportunities that we have,” Coach Terrance said. “A lot of the boys were really good friends with Nathan. The baseball family in Lexington is a pretty big family as well. So the Henry Clay family and the Eastern Little League family both lost a big part of that.”
Thursday’s baseball game started with a moment of silence and Coach Tarrance said Nathan will also be honored at their next home game.
FCPS officials say they are offering grief counseling to students and staff at Henry Clay.
