LEXINGTON, Ky. (FOX 56) — A Lexington women’s hospital is set to get a valuable upgrade in its labor and delivery care department.

The Women’s Hospital at Saint Joseph East received a $100,000 grant courtesy of WHAS Crusade for Children that will go toward new equipment benefitting newborns.

Funds will refresh and replace equipment within the hospital’s Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). The unit specializes in caring for patients 28 weeks or older and infants suffering from neonatal absence syndrome and other various special needs.

“Last year, more than 14% of the births at the Women’s Hospital were admitted to the NICU. We know that babies born prematurely and those born with special needs require close monitoring and specialized medical care. We are able to update this critical equipment in the NICU thanks to the generosity of the WHAS Crusade for Children,” said Leslie Smart, CFRE, president of Saint Joseph Hospital Foundation.
