LEXINGTON, Ky. (FOX 56) – “Stop the violence” is the message being shared by those who loved 44-year-old Cornelius Allen.

Police said Allen was shot and killed on Hollow Creek Road in Lexington on Feb. 7. An unidentified 17-year-old has been arrested in the killing.

Pastor Lucian Booker of New Day Community Church said he knew Allen for 20 years. Booker said Allen was a long-time active member of their church, known by everyone as “The Gentle Giant”.

Booker said this death is a big loss for their church family, a loss that everybody is still trying to make sense of.

“We’ve been connected at the hip for twenty plus years, he actually was the first person to hold all four of my children besides my wife and myself. A man of God, a man of integrity. We all are scrambling to try to figure out why this happened,” said Booker.

It’s still unclear why the shooting happened. Police are continuing to investigate.
