RICHMOND, Ky. (FOX 56) – Madison County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a shooting and burglary that occurred around 9:30 a.m. Thursday.

Deputies were called to a home on Mule Shed Lane where they told FOX 56 has had a history of domestic problems, and a current protective order is in place.

When authorities arrived, they found a woman and man locked in a bathroom together. According to the sheriff’s office, the man surrendered without incident.

According to the sheriff’s office, the situation began when Amanda Edington saw her estranged husband, Tommy Edington, outside her home with a shotgun. The woman, the primary resident of the home, was accompanied by two men inside the home she was able to barricade the door to the home.

Amanda, her adult son, James Spicer, and Hogan Rose retreated to the master bedroom before Tommy kicked in a side door, according to a news release.

Officials said Rose, an acquaintance of Amanda, and Tommy exchanged gunfire, leaving both men injured.

Rose escaped the scene before taking himself to Baptist Health Richmond, and Amanda and Spicer were not injured.

Tommy locked himself and Amanda in a bathroom but did leave the barricaded bathroom, surrendering to deputies without incident.

Tommy was taken to UK Medical Center for his injuries and is charged with attempted murder-domestic violence, first-degree burglary, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and violation of a Kentucky EPO/DV.
