Man electrocuted at Lexington construction site
LEXINGTON, Ky. (WDKY) - The Fayette County Coroner's Office says one person is dead and another is hurt at a Lexington work site.
Coroner Gary Ginn says a man was electrocuted, and his brother-in-law was shocked trying to save him. This happened near the intersection of Squires Road and Easthills Drive where some townhomes were recently torn down.
A company was contracted to remove some leftover debris, and a worker was moving debris into a pit when his dump truck came in contact with power lines, starting a fire. The man honked his horn, alerting his brother-in-law he was in trouble.
Lexington Fire is the lead investigating agency, and police say there is not a criminal investigation. Responders brought equipment to cut open a vehicle, but when they arrived they found the dump truck burning.
Kentucky Utilities is reporting more than 5,000 customers without power in the area. It is affecting traffic on Man o' War Boulevard near the scene of the fire.
The Occupational Health and Safety Administration (OSHA) is being called to investigate.
