LEXINGTON, Ky. (FOX 56) – AAA is expecting an estimated 48 million Americans to travel this weekend.

At the Bluegrass Airport changes have been made to enhance security. This includes new screening technology that allows TSA agents to zoom in and rotate a three-dimensional image of passenger’s carry-on baggers.

This new technology is expected to cut down wait times thanks to fewer bag checks.

Airport representatives still encourage travelers to get to the airport early.

“Get to the airport two hours prior to your scheduled departure time. Keep an eye on your itinerary with your airline all the way up to your departure time. If your flight is canceled or delayed, there is no need for you to come through security. Something to keep an eye on. And also factor in weather, thunderstorms come in and out and that can factor in as well.,” said TSA Regional Spokesperson Mark Howell.

According to FlightAware, over 57,000 flights have been delayed with over 20,000 cancellations in the U.S. just this week. At LEX airport, 27 flights have been delayed and four canceled in the last seven days.
