LEXINGTON, Ky. (FOX 56) – A Nicholasville man was sentenced to 93 months in federal prison on Monday.

Demetrius Burt Catching, 32, pleaded guilty to the distribution of marijuana and money laundering in March 2021.

According to the Department of Justice, Catching admitted to distributing marijuana in the Lexington area and taking that money, and placing large sports bets at Indiana casinos.

In his plea agreement, Catching admitted to being banned from one of the casinos so he got others to go in his place to make his wagers. Money from his wagers was then deposited in bank accounts in his name.

In a news release, the DOJ confirmed Catching was ordered to forfeit around $215,000 from his drug trafficking and money laundering offenses. He also was sentenced to serve an additional, consecutive term of 55 months, for supervised release violations from prior convictions.
