RICHMOND, Ky. (FOX 56) – A Richmond organization is doing its part to address the growing need for homeless shelters in the city.

Madison Home Shelter announced plans to build a full-time shelter for the homeless.

Case Manager Melissa Slone said the number of people who come in for meals has doubled over the last couple of weeks. she hopes the city will support the need for the shelter.

“To get this building zoned so that it can be a homeless shelter. We have four floors and we are working on renovating those floors so we have an operational kitchen. We have two floors we are hoping turn into transitional living,” Slone said.
