LEXINGTON, Ky. (FOX 56) – Some Lexington dogs are being relocated from a PetSmart in Hamburg after the store’s air conditioner broke down at the adopting center, during a rising heat wave.

Now the Lexington Humane Society needs foster parents and people to adopt the animals. The humane society stepped in to rescue the animals from the store, but the only place to keep them is an already full shelter.

“It is almost 100 degrees and the animals obviously can’t stay there. We are bringing them all back to the main campus and it is a little over two dozen animals that are coming back to the shelter which is already very full,” said Katy Stoess, Lexington Humane Society.

Short-term adoptions can be for the weekend or a few weeks. Just long enough to give the animals a break from the shelter.
