Detectives in Lexington Police Department’s Cold Case Unit have made a second arrest in the 2009 murder of Charlie Sowers.

Sowers was the owner of Charlie’s Restaurant and Lounge on Bryan Station Road.  He was found, barely alive, inside his Augusta Drive home in May of 2009.

Lexington Police originally suspected that Charlie’s injuries were from a fall down the stairs, but it was later ruled a homicide.  The cause of death, blunt force trauma.

Last week, detectives arrested 34-year old Rachel Martin of Garrard County, charging her with murder.

Today, authorities picked up 38-year old Edward Carroll of Nicholasville and booked him into the Jessamine County Detention Center on a murder charge.

Sowers’ daughter, Sharon McKinney says the past several days have brought on a flood of emotion.  “I’m relieved, I’m happy, sad and angry.  I didn’t expect to have all these emotions. It’s been 11 long years.”
