Second teen arrested in Lexington shooting that left 5-year old boy blind

LEXINGTON, Ky. (FOX 56) Lexington Police confirm to FOX 56 that a second arrest has been made in the December 2020 shooting that injured Malakai Roberts.

18-year old Teyo Waite was booked into the Fayette County Detention Center Thursday night. He faces Assault 1st, Assault 2nd and Wanton Endangerment charges.

The 5-year old Roberts was shot while in his home on Catera Trace just days before Christmas in 2020. Kai’s mother, Cacy was also grazed.

Two other people were in the home at the time.

Wednesday evening, police charged 18-year old Michael Lemond in the crime.

Lemond is charged with two counts of assault and two counts of wanton endangerment.

Lemond’s arrest citation says he “intentionally caused serious physical injury to the victim, Malakai Roberts, by means of a deadly weapon.”
