LEXINGTON, Ky. (FOX 56) – Lexington Police Department was dispatched to Unity Worship Center at approximately 2 p.m. where the funeral for Malcolm Long was taking place.
Lt. Dillan Taylor told FOX 56 that the sheriff’s office, who was already on site to escort the procession to the graveyard, was requesting backup after shots were fired.
On scene, the police located one male victim who was suffering from life-threatening injuries and one female victim who had non-life-threatening injuries.
The Fayette County Coroner’s Office confirmed the male victim to be Joseph Demetrius Richardson, 35, of Versailles.
Both Richardson and the female victim were transported to the University of Kentucky Medical Center. Richardson was ultimately pronounced dead at 2:42 p.m.
At this time there have been no arrests made. This incident is still under investigation by the Lexington Police Department.
Lexington police responded to reports of a shooting that took place at Unity Church just after 2 p.m. on Saturday.
According to an obituary, funeral services for Malcolm Long Jr., who was killed on May 24 on Locust Avenue, were taking place at the time of the shooting.
Georgiaree Godfrey of FOX 56 reported there are about a dozen law enforcement vehicles gathered around the church, including the Lexington Police Department.
