VERSAILLES, Ky. (FOX 56) — Spring has sprung and that means fresh fruits and veggies are getting ripe for pickin’! Eckert’s Orchard, a family farm in Versailles, has red and juicy strawberries ready to pick.

Guests can join the team at Eckert’s from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m Tuesdays through Sundays to ride the tractor out to Eckert’s strawberry fields and pick fresh fruit. The cost is $3 per person.

Strawberries are ready to be picked once they’re completely red. To pick them, just grasp the stem with your index finger and thumb, then gently pull, and twist. Ideally, you’ll have about part of the stem still on the berry. And pro tip: Pick early in the morning, while the berries are still cool!

The highly anticipated Strawberry Festival on the farm is also back this year. It returns this Saturday and Sunday, then picks back up the following weekend May 21 to 22 as well as Memorial Day weekend.

Eckert’s Strawberry Festival offers outdoor family fun for guests of all ages including live music, a petting zoo, and specialty offerings such as homemade bakery items, including their famous apple cider donuts.

If you can’t make it to the orchard, you can also stop by Missy’s Pie Shop, Doodle’s Breakfast and Lunch, Spark Community Café, The Kentucky Castle, Vinaigrette Salad Kitchen, Zim’s Café, Sutton’s Italian Restaurant, Rolling Oven Taproom, and Amsden Coffee Shop to try their specials that include Eckert’s fresh fruits!

With summer right around the corner, the pick-your-own series continues with blackberries, peaches, apples, and then pumpkins.

Be sure to follow the orchard on Facebook to keep up with everything going on at the farm.
