Two charged in murder of Winchester teens appear in court
WINCHESTER, Ky. - Two people charged in connection to the murders of two Winchester teenagers spent their Monday in front of the judge.
Winchester Police are trying to find Matthew Carmen, age 23, and Julia Richardson, age 25.
Four others have already been arraigned in the case.
Matthew Carmen, 23 and Julia Richardson, 25 were arrested Friday night at a shopping center in Lexington.
Winchester police say they were at the scene on Tuesday night, November 7th, when 16-year-olds Kayla Holan and Adriana Castro were shot and killed in the parking lot of a Winchester apartment building.
Carmen has been charged with complicity to murder, Richardson is facing an evidence tampering charge.
Richardson's grandmother, Zeta Winburn, says it is impossible that her granddaughter is responsible for either of the teens deaths. Winburn says Richardson was asleep on the couch when the shooting took place.
"The situation is really bad," Winburn told Fox 56. "I’m really sorry for the girls families but my granddaughter didn’t have anything to do with it."
Police say Richardson did hold a part in the crime. They say she took a backpack containing bullets from the scene and gave them to a neighbor.
Last week four other people Ronnie Ellis, Michaela Buford, Denzel hill, and Darian Skinner were charged with complicity to murder and had not guilty pleas entered for them when they appeared in court.
A warrant says Skinner, Ellis, and Hill were looking for a person on East Washington Street after an argument at a gas station and found Carmen with that person.
Police say the four-men had guns began shooting at one another, Holland and Castro were killed in the crossfire.
Monday morning police told Fox 56 there haven’t been any updates in the case since Friday, but say there could be more arrests.
Carmen is currently on a $1 million bond and Richardson is on a $5,000 cash bond.
Adriana Castro was buried last week. Kayla Holland's funeral will be Tuesday at Scobee Funeral Home in Winchester.
