Two hospitalized after Lexington shooting

Local

LEXINGTON, Ky. (FOX 56/WKYT) – Two people were taken to the hospital on Sunday after being shot in Lexington.

According to police, a woman and a male teen were shot on Endon Drive around 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 10.

Jeff Williams has lived in the neighborhood for 18 years, and he was just around the corner when those shots rang out.

“I was out mowing the front yard, I had just started, and I heard six or eight shots, and I saw three cars involved in a wreck right here at Endon Drive, and they all sped away,” said Williams.

Lieutenant Chris Van Brackel of the Lexington Police Department says there was an altercation before the shooting but doesn’t know what part the victims may have played in it. Van Brackel said the woman had critical injuries.

“Both of those victims have been taken to University of Kentucky Hospital by the fire department where they’re being treated,” Van Brackel said.

Police found someone hiding in an SUV near the scene of the shooting. Van Brackel said she was a juvenile witness and couldn’t comment further. He also noted that they believe the suspect fled in a car but could not share information on the suspect or a description of the vehicle.

For people in the neighborhood like Williams, the violent trend in the area is concerning. He and others say it used to be quiet, but the violence has ramped up over the past five years.

“You hear gunshots around here quite often,” Williams said. “It didn’t used to be that way. But it sure has gotten bad.”

This is a developing story, and it will be updated as more information comes to light.
