Irvine Police are investigating after two people were found dead inside a home in Estill County.

It happened Saturday afternoon at a home on Hood Avenue, which is in Irvine off Kentucky 52. Police say they were called to the home for a welfare check and found a man and woman dead.

“They could be nothing at all and the people be just fine and today’s a worst-case scenario,” Irvine Police Chief Brad Smith said.

Estill County Coroner Anthony Murphy said 68-year-old Barbara Williams and 71-year-old Charles Williams have died.

Neighbors say they saw police surrounding the home when they arrived.

“I thought maybe someone had a heart attack or something, but then when the police showed up and surrounded the house, I figured it was something [worse],” neighbor Douglas Riggsby said. “[I’m] definitely going to pray for the family and hopefully everybody gets through it. [I] hope they figure out exactly what happened.”

Police say the bodies are being taken to the medical examiner’s office in Frankfort for an autopsy.
