LEXINGTON, Ky. (FOX 56) – Starting Wednesday, the University of Kentucky is easing its on-campus mask mandate as COVID-19 incidence rates continue to fall.
In response to the CDC updating their masking guidelines, students and faculty on campus are not required to wear a mask in many settings.
Masks are optional in common areas across campus, at voluntary events like concerts, and sporting events.
Masks are still required in:
- Classrooms during classes
- Private offices and conference/meeting rooms where more than one person is gathered
- Research and classroom laboratories
- Health care facilities as they are subject to their own set of policies
While wearing masks, the University of Kentucky recommends masks cover the mouth and nose and they should have a secure, comfortable fit that is secured by either ties or ear loops. Masks should be made of multiple layers of fabric or medical-grade materials like KN95 and surgical masks while allowing for unrestricted breathing.
