JESSAMINE COUNTY, Ky. (WDKY) – A teenager is dead and three other juveniles are in the hospital after a crash in Jessamine County.

It happened around 9 p.m. Saturday on Union Mill Road (KY 169), around 4 1/2 miles east of Nicholasville.

Deputies say a Chevy Trailblazer was headed west on Union Mill Road when the driver lost control and hit a tree on the opposite side of the road.

The driver and three passengers, who officials say are all juveniles, were taken to UK Hospital.

Deputies say 15-year-old Aubrey Howard, of Nicholasville, was pronounced dead at the hospital.

A vigil was held on Sunday afternoon at East Jessamine High School to remember Howard and pray for her classmates who were injured in the crash.

“Each of these students touched our lives,” East Jessamine High School Principal Aaron Etherington said. “Whether they were in countless academic programs or extracurricular program or just a ‘Good morning, hey how are you?’ or a simple joke, our hearts are broken and this is a tragic event for our school.”

The gymnasium was packed with students who showed up to remember Aubrey Howard and comfort anyone who may have known her.

“We are going to do everything that we can to come together as a community to support everyone through this crisis,” Jessamine County Schools Superintendent Matt Moore said.

School officials say grief counselors will be on hand at the school on Monday morning to help students deal with the loss.
