Woman injured after shots fired into Lexington home

LEXINGTON, Ky. (FOX 56/WKYT) – A woman is hurt after shots were fired into a Lexington home early Wednesday morning.

Police say it happened around 2:30 a.m. in the 400 block of Chestnut Street.

A suspect shot into the woman’s home from her backyard. The woman was hit but is expected to be okay.

Police say they don’t have information on the suspect at this time.

“I keep hearing ‘Lexington’s a safe city.’ Well, it’s not a safe city if it’s not safe for everybody, and everybody deserves to be safe,” said Billie Mallory with East End Development Corporation.

Neighbors in the East End say they don’t feel safe.

“I just want to get my kids out of the neighborhood pretty much. We haven’t been able to really enjoy this place. They stay in the house because you never know when they’re going to be shooting,” said one neighbor.

Mallory says that more needs to be done to stop acts of violence like this.

“We work very hard with the police, and people have been trained on the kind of things to look for and the kind of things to report,” said Mallory. “But, you know, you just can’t expect at 2:30 in the morning that a bullet is going to come through your house. I’m not just angry, it literally hurts my heart.”

Anyone with information about what happened is asked to contact Lexington Police by calling (859) 258-3600. Anonymous tips can be submitted to Bluegrass Crime Stoppers by calling (859) 253-2020, online at bluegrasscrimestoppers.com, or through the P3 tips app available at p3tips.com.
