Woman killed in Bourbon County floodwaters identified

PARIS, Ky. (WDKY) - Bourbon County authorities say a woman is dead after her car was swept away in floodwaters Sunday afternoon.

Sheriff Mark Matthews says the woman's vehicle was swept away around noon on Brentsville Road about a mile away from U.S. 27. The woman was on the phone with a friend when the vehicle was swept away. The friend called 911 to alert authorities.

Authorities identified the woman as 23-year-old Holli Pennington. Pennington was an intern who was working at Silver Springs Stud horse farm in Paris. She is from Colorado.

Rescuers used a 10-foot pole to locate the vehicle, which was submerged in a creek.

The victim was the only vehicle occupant. The water on the road has since receded.
