The Woodford County Public School Board has been discussing and releasing public forums for thoughts on building a new high school.
The new building would replace the current one, which is having roofing issues, along with the upper level of the gym being shut down due to wear and tear. In fact, basketball games are played at the middle school as of now.
As far as design, the new building will feature a very large band room which will double as a storm shelter.
Features like these have Superintendent Danny Adkins ready to see it built.
“Our facility is tired. I think it was ’65 or ’67 when it was originally built, and it has 54, 55 years on it now. It’s time for a new facility. Our kids deserve it,” Adkins said. “We’ve actually had some students come to the board meeting the other night and make some comments. They’re excited about the opportunity to be in a new facility.”
The designs are now awaiting approval from the Kentucky Department of Education. Once it’s approved there, the bidding process can start.
