LEXINGTON, Ky. (FOX 56) — School social workers wear a lot of hats, which is why it’s crucial for these folks to be ready for anything. Staff members from UK’s College of Social Work saw a need and are filling it with a new partnership.

This partnership means people employed with the Fayette County Schools can enroll in a fully online program to become certified social workers.

Even those who already have a Master of Social Work can enroll to get more experience. Staff from the college of social work said it’s crucial that these workers are ready for anything. Students can be negatively influenced by things that happen inside the school walls, and this program was created to prevent those issues from the start.

The partnership has already seen a lot of success, drawing in a bunch of people ready to commit to the program.

“It’s really important that we understand that schools are kind of a microcosm of the broader world. The same problems that we see in the community manifest in schools in a different way. What we want to do is make sure that our practitioners are supported and prepared in a way that allows them to creatively deal with those challenges,” said Dean of UK College of Social Work Jay Miller.
