UK grad, former Georgetown assistant new head coach at Florida Gulf Coast

FT. MYERS, Fla. (WDKY) - Former Georgetown College student assistant Michael Fly is the new head coach at Florida Gulf Coast.

Fly, who coached under Happy Osborne at Georgetown in 2004-05, graduated from UK in 2006. He was introduced on Friday.

Fly spent the past seven seasons as an assistant coach at Florida Gulf Coast. The Fulton, Ky. native was part of “Dunk City,” the 2013 Eagles team that became the first 15-seed to advance to an NCAA Tournament Sweet 16.

In 2006-07, Fly was a video coordinator for the Charlotte Bobcats and coach Bernie Bickerstaff. In 2008, he joined Leonard Hamilton’s staff at Florida State in a similar capacity.
