RICHMOND, Ky. (FOX 56) – Winning basketball took over McBrayer Arena on Saturday for both Eastern Kentucky University teams.

The men’s team took on an in-state rival with Northern Kentucky traveling down to Richmond. A close battle went to overtime, but the Colonels came out with the 81-68 win. The Kerns outscored the Norse 17-4 in the extra period.

Cooper Robb led EKU with 19 points, going 7-of-12 from the field and added four steals on the defensive side. Devontae Blanton scored 16 and Curt Lewis recorded a double-double with 13 points and 13 rebounds.

The Kerns improve to 7-6 on the year and get back in action on Wednesday at Bryant University.

The women’s team had to battle through a jam-packed week with back-to-back games against Morehead State and Louisville on Wednesday and Thursday. On just two days rest, the Colonels worked to keep up with Pikeville, an NAIA team.

Pikeville held a lead through most of the game before EKU dug in late in the fourth quarter, taking the lead with about four minutes left on a three-pointer from Brie Crittendon and held on from there.

EKU improves to 5-6 on the season and has another quick turnaround, back on the court on Tuesday at Appalachian State.
