LEXINGTON, Ky. (FOX 56) — A number of local high school basketball teams looked to start the week on the right foot by picking up wins on Monday evening.
In Lexington, Tates Creek got it rolling with a key Region 11 win over Western Hills, 90-59. The Commodores improve to 9-9 on the season and 5-4 in the region while the Wolverines drop to 8-9 and 3-8 in the region.
At Sayre School, the Spartans fell behind to Scott Co. but put together a furious rally in the final minutes. Down double digits late in the 4th quarter, they came up with a few steals in the full court press and turned those into buckets to get the game within six. But the Cardinals held it down from the free throw line and snagged the 64-56 win.
Down in Madison County, a nonconference showdown took place with 12th Region Lincoln Co. traveling to 11th Region Madison Central. The Indians defended home court with a 68-53 win behind a strong first quarter from Will Hardin.
