Scott County breaks scoring records in blowout; Lafayette advances in 11th Region

Scott County and Lafayette advance in the boys' 11th Region tournament.

RICHMOND, Ky. - Scott County led Madison Southern 38-3 after the first quarter and 80-22 at halftime on the way to a record-setting 114-37 win in the 11th Region quarterfinals Thursday night at EKU. The 80 points is a record for most points in a half by an 11th Region school and the 114 points are an 11th Region tournament record - as is the 77-point margin of victory, according to the Lexington Herald-Leader's Josh Moore.

Michael Moreno led the way for the Cardinals with 29 points on 12-15 shooting to go with 8 rebounds - all in the first half.

Scott County (32-1) moves on to the semifinals where it'll meet Lafayette Saturday at approximately 3:15 p.m. Madison Southern's season ends with a 12-20 record.


After trailing the entire first half, Lafayette took the lead on Woodford County less than a minute into the second half and never trailed again on the way to a 51-39 win in the 11th Region quarterfinals Thursday night at EKU.

Cameron King had a team-high 15 points for the Generals, which also got 13 points from Devonte Hayes. The Yellow Jackets' Nicholas Smith scored a game-high 19 points.

Lafayette (21-9) advances to the semifinals to face Scott County, which hasn't lost to an in-state school this season, Saturday at approximately 3:15 p.m. Woodford County finishes its season at 17-14 and as 41st District champions.
