RICHMOND, Ky. (FOX 56) – It was an emotional night for Henry Clay boys head basketball coach Daniel Brown. Monday night was Brown’s late fathers birthday. Brown had a good feeling during the day, and that rang true as the Blue Devils beat Frederick Douglass 41-36 for the Region 11 Championship.

“I had a feeling coming in he’s looking down and he would’ve loved this,” Brown said after the game. “How fun? I get to spend another week with these guys, I’m just blessed.” This is the first Sweet 16 appearance for Henry Clay since 2005.

Kanye Henderson led the Blue Devils with 14 points on the night. Aziel Blackwell finished with 12 points. It was a moment of reaping the rewards of hard offseason work. “Summer time all we did was work and lift,” Henderson said. “We grinded for this, we deserve it.”

Freshman Armelo Boone led the way with 15 points for Frederick Douglass, who was looking to clinch their first Sweet 16 berth.

The Blue Devils are headed to Rupp Arena and will take on Murray High on Thursday, March 17th at 6:00 P.M.
