LEXINGTON, Ky. (FOX 56) – The KHSAA Class 3A track & field state championships were held on Saturday at the UK Track & Field Complex, giving high school athletes a chance to take home some hardware.
A number of state championships were won by local Central Kentucky schools, including a few titles won from West Jessamine athletes. Aly Doyle won the Girls 300 meter hurdles for the second straight year, while Kiera Antoni from Paul Laurence Dunbar finished second in the event.
Lafayette’s Sarah Ferguson made history on the pole vault, clearing the mark of 13-6 to set a new KHSAA state record. She attempted to push her new record even further with an attempt at 13-7 but was unsuccessful, but still took home the state championship.
On boys pole vault, Madison Central’s Wyatt Stewart is one of the highest rated high school pole vaulters in the country and set the state record last year at a mark of 16-1. He came back on Saturday and broke his own state record, clearing a 16-3 mark to win the state championship.
The Class 1A state championships were held on Thursday at Kentucky and Class 2A was held on Friday.
