LEXINGTON, Ky. (FOX 56) – After winning the Region 8 championship at the University of Louisville baseball stadium last weekend, Woodford County took the field this weekend at the University of Kentucky’s stadium this weekend for the state tournament.

The Yellow Jackets beat DeSales on Thursday and kept the winning train going with a win over Boyd County, 10-3. Their bats continued to light up the scoreboard after plating 12 runs on Thursday, combining for 22 runs in the first two rounds of State.

After scoring an early run on a wild pitch in the 1st inning, Woodford County took off in the 4th with a two-run RBI single from Collin Kemp to go ahead 4-0 and keeping a comfortable lead the rest of the way.

Woodford County will face Russell County on Friday in the KHSAA baseball state semifinals, with first pitch set for 12:30 p.m.
