LEXINGTON, Ky. (FOX 56) – After the University of Kentucky lost their in-state rival Louisville for a Wednesday night matchup due to COVID-19 complications, John Calipari announced, during his weekly radio show, Kentucky will now play Western Kentucky Univeristy instead.
The game will take place at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, with previously purchased tickets still being honored.
UK Athletics announced the game will also have a charitable initiative to raise money for the victims of tornadoes and severe weather in western Kentucky.
Tasked with trying to find a replacement quickly, Calipari said UK talked to Gonzaga University, University of Texas, and Ohio State Univesity about getting on the schedule, but it was too quick of a turnaround. The team was set to play Louisville for the first time since 2019, but the Cardinals are dealing with COVID-19 issues within the program.
Kentucky rolled past North Carolina 98-69 on Saturday in Las Vegas. They were originally supposed to play Ohio State, but the Buckeyes were dealing with COVID issues as well.
