LEXINGTON, Ky. (FOX 56) – Winter weather is finally setting in, and officials across the state are encouraging Kentuckians to think of their winter weather emergency plans.
The National Weather Service (NWS) describes winter storms as “deceptive killers”.
Most deaths are indirectly related to a storm, occurring because of hypothermia, motor-vehicle incidents, or a combination of both.
This is the reason why the National Weather Service and AAA stress the importance of concise preparation and cautious driving.
In the event of winter weather, AAA recommends slowing your speed, keeping more distance between yourself and other cars, and avoiding frequently changing lanes as well as the use of cruise control.
They also recommend packing a first aid kit, shovel, jumper cables, a flashlight, as well as water, snacks, and extra clothing.
In the event of a motor vehicle crash or malfunction, AAA says to remain in your car unless you believe it is in a dangerous spot.
